Immediate Opening: Associate Pastor with Emphasis in Youth Ministry

 

Clarence United Methodist Church (CUMC) is seeking a full-time (40 hrs. weekly) energetic and outgoing Christian leader with a demonstrated ability to build Christ-centered relationships within a local church setting, and with a heavy emphasis on student ministry (grades 6-12). We are a vibrant congregation of approximately 200 attenders located in Clarence, NY, a suburb of Buffalo, with facilities conducive to a wide range of youth ministry activities. 

 

In addition to possessing a strong, authentic Christian faith compatible with the core values and mission of CUMC, the ideal candidate will possess strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills, and have experience in relational youth ministry.  The candidate should be adept at using social media and current technology to advance ministry.  Being able to effectively offer pastoral care to youth is essential. A college degree in a related field is a plus.

Associate Pastor – Emphasis in Student Ministry 

Principal focus:

Leading students to connect with Jesus, his people, and his purposes by sustaining and further developing a comprehensive approach to youth ministry that reflects the core values and vision of Clarence United Methodist Church while serving as a spiritual leader and role model. Position will also offer numerous opportunities to be involved throughout the ministry of the church in ways appropriate to gifts, skills and interests of candidate.

 

Primary duties:

  • Serve on staff as a faithful Christian leader in accomplishing our mission to lead others to connect with Jesus, his people and his purposes
  • Develop strong Christ-centered relationships with youth (grades 6 through 12) from CUMC and the greater community and their families.
  • Plan, organize and lead youth activities including weekly youth programs, youth Bible studies, community outreach programs, ie. weekly afterschool program, retreats, mission projects, fundraising events, and group outings.
  • Provide regular and timely communication of activities and events to students, families and adult leaders.
  • Effectively communicate the availablity and character of youth programs both within and beyond CUMC using social media and modern technology as well as traditional media.
  • Provide pastoral care to students.
  • Plan and distribute lessons/curriculum for middle and high school Sunday school classes and assist in recruiting Sunday school teachers.
  • Plan, lead, and provide spiritual and educational guidance to youth in the Confirmation Program.
  • Implement and uphold “Safe Sanctuary” abuse prevention policy.
  • Recruit and develop a strong Adult Leadership Team for youth activities. Schedule and facilitate regular meetings.

General Duties:

  • Serve as point of contact for Family Life Center use. Maintain calendar of events for gym / community room / kitchen and administer the facility use.
  • Display fiscal responsibility and integrity in handling any and all funds in relation to youth programs and the Family Life Center.
  • Support and assist Pastor as able and as requested, including actively participating in Sunday morning worship, special events held at the church, visitation and overall congregational care.
  • Provide support to Children’s Ministry team, including delivering or coordinating weekly children’s sermon during Sunday service.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and engage in larger ministry needs and direction of the church.
  • Partner with local Younglife and Wyldelife ministries.

 

Additional Consideration

  • For the right candidate, there is room for expansion of leadership role into worship music ministry and leadership with added compensation
