CUSTODIAN

Primary Responsibilities: 

As Church Custodian, your key responsibilities will be centered around maintaining the cleanliness, organization, and overall appearance of the church facilities. Your dedication to these tasks will contribute significantly to creating a welcoming and peaceful environment for church members and visitors.

 

Work Hours:

Part-time, as arranged with the Senior Pastor and Trustees. Evening and weekend hours sometimes required.

 

Supervision and Evaluation:

Reports to the Senior Pastor and to the Trustees.

 

General Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Facility Cleaning—ensure all areas of the church, including the sanctuary, welcome center, community room, gym, halls, restrooms, offices, meeting rooms and classrooms, and common areas, are clean and well-maintained. This includes sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming, dusting, and wiping down surfaces regularly to keep the church clean.

 

  • Kitchen & Restroom Maintenance—keep restrooms and kitchen fully stocked with essential supplies, clean and sanitized. Regularly check and maintain soap dispensers, paper towels, and toilet paper dispensers.

 

  • Trash Management—properly dispose of waste and recyclables in designated areas and ensure trash bins are regularly emptied and kept clean.

 

  • Event Set-Up and Breakdown—assist in setting up chairs, tables, and other equipment for church services, events, and gatherings as requested by the senior pastor. After events, ensure that the facilities are returned to their original state.

 

  • Supply Inventory—keep track of cleaning supplies, restroom essentials, and other supplies. Inform the chair of Trustees when supplies need to be restocked.

 

  • Mechanical Maintenance—handle minor maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, checking AED units monthly, and addressing other minor repairs. Report any significant maintenance issues to the Trustees.

 

  • Outdoor Maintenance—lawn care, light landscaping, and general upkeep of outdoor spaces, including entryways and walkways (snow removal and salting during winter; sweeping during spring/summer and fall). Report any significant maintenance issues to the Trustees.

 

  • Assigned Project Work—complete small projects and seasonal work as assigned by church leadership.
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations, including proper use of cleaning chemicals and maintaining a safe environment for staff and visitors.

 

  • Participate in an evaluation after a 90-day probationary period and thereafter annually.

 

  • Report to the staff parish relations team liaison any issues which are hindering the ability to perform duties or responsibilities.

 

  • Communicate in advance, by phone, email, or text to the Senior Pastor and the staff parish relations team liaison: 1.) any planned absences with an advance two-week notice, or 2.) any unplanned absences at least two hours prior to the shift.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma.
  • Previous experience in custodial work or janitorial services is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with proper cleaning techniques, equipment, and cleaning agents is an advantage.
  • Attention to detail to ensure that all areas of the church are clean, organized, and well-maintained.

·       Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects, move furniture, and stand for extended periods.

·       Dependability, punctuality, and reliability are crucial.

·       Effective communication is necessary to coordinate with other staff members and report any maintenance or supply needs.

·       Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, to accommodate events and church activities as required.

·       Ability to work independently and with limited supervision.

·       A positive and friendly demeanor.

·       Commitment to the Church’s Mission—a strong alignment with the values and mission of the church is beneficial in creating a welcoming and supportive atmosphere.

  • Ability to use AED unit, administer CPR, and utilize fire safety equipment is a plus (training will be provided if necessary).

 

Compensation: $19 per hour to start; pay to be reevaluated after 90-day probationary period.

 

Typical Hours: Monday-Friday; 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. (schedule may vary to accommodate events and church activities)

Administrative Assistant

 

Primary Responsibility: 

The Administrative Assistant is often the first point of contact at Clarence Global Methodist Church. This person is responsible for maintaining communication with the Senior Pastor and the congregation and amongst the congregation.

 

Supervision and Evaluation:

Reports to the Senior Pastor and to the Staff Parish Relations Team. 

 

General Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Answer phones, check emails, sort mail, maintain office calendar, church calendar and church website.
  • Order giving envelopes.
  • Maintain membership records for new members, marriages, deaths, confirmations, baptisms and birthdays.
  • Assemble list of birthdays for inclusion in the weekly bulletin/newsletter (completed once per month).
  • Order office supplies as needed and assign expenses to the appropriate team budget.
  • File Trustee paperwork as directed by Trustees in the designated cabinet folders.
  • Prepare the monthly Finance Team meeting agenda; print 8-10 copies and put in conference room.
  • Attend Church Council Meeting, take meeting minutes, then send to leaders.
  • Notify payroll company of any changes to employee information throughout the year.

 

Qualifications:

  • Ability to support a Christian faith community, The Transitional Book of Doctrines and Discipline of the Global Methodist Church, and the policies of the Clarence Global Methodist Church
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in an office environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, professional presentation and communications skills (both verbal and written)
  • Good judgement, service-orientation, and ability to interact with a diverse group of people (internal and external).
  • Discretion and confidentiality in all matters.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking and project management skills.
  • Experience working independently under general direction.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of Microsoft programs, including spreadsheet and database programs as well as the aptitude to learn/use new technologies.
  • Experience with Church Windows and ProPresenter is preferred.
